Federal figures show US retail sales dropped by the most in nearly two years last month.  It’s likely the decline was fueled by frigid temperatures in the East and Midwest, wildfires in the west, and motor vehicle shortages.  These factors are likely to affect the entire first quarter of 2025.  https://www.reuters.com/business/

President Trump yesterday ordered federal agencies to investigate plans for new reciprocal tariffs to boost American revenue.  One of his campaign pledges was to even the score with foreign nations that tax American imports and solve what he termed “unfair trade practices.”  In speaking with reporters yesterday, he revealed the name of the order – the “Fair and Reciprocal Plan”, saying whatever other countries charge us, we will charge them the same.  Any changes in US tariffs on imports has the potential to ignite a trade war and negatively affect inflation. https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/13/economy/new-us-trump-tariffs/index.html
