Pala’s heat wave should peak at about 90 on Friday, then cool off considerably over the weekend. The full forecast is coming up. (below)

The gold medal-winning US women’s hockey team has politely declined an invitation from President Trump to attend tonight’s State of the Union address. In a statement issued yesterday, the team cited timing and prior commitments. Many of the players weren’t scheduled to arrive back in North America until last evening and some have PWHL league games scheduled for today. While inviting the men’s team on Sunday night, Trump joked that if he did not also invite the women’s team he’d probably be impeached. Members of the men’s team have confirmed they will be attending tonight’s speech even though it could also be scheduling challenge for them with NHL play resuming tomorrow. They arrived back in the US on an earlier chartered flight than the women’s commercial flights yesterday. https://apnews.com/article/trump-state-of-union-womens-hockey-gold-medal-2311fcc12756a72d8733f0f8c12116f8

This includes the obesity injection Wegovy and its pill counterpart, the diabetes shot Ozempic and the diabetes pill Rybelsus. All will list at $675 per month beginning January 1. The move is to make the treatments more accessible to patients with insurance coverage whose out-of-pocket costs are linked to drug list prices. It should also help Novo Nordisk compete with Eli Lilly, who currently have the majority of the GLP-1 market. https://www.cnbc.com/2026/02/24/novo-nordisk-to-slash-wegovy-ozempic-us-list-prices-by-up-to-50percent.html
Warner Bros. Discovery has received a new takeover offer from Paramount which it will now review. Meanwhile, it is still recommending to its shareholders the competing offer from Netflix, which it approved in December. Netflix only wants Warner’s studio and streaming business. Paramount wants the entire company, which could raise federal anti-trust concerns. Politics could also come into play since President Trump has a close relationship with billionaire founder of Oracle, Larry Ellison who is also the father of Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison. Shareholders are set to vote on the Netflix proposal on March 20. https://apnews.com/article/warner-bros-netflix-paramount-studio-hollywood-1d2cf2c65ed6aceb4e34811d68e987ac

The U.S. State Department has been updating advice for U.S. citizens currently in Mexico several times daily since Sunday’s notice to shelter in place due to violence following the capture and subsequent death of cartel leader El Mencho. There have been 62 deaths related to that federal raid in the state of Jalisco. Puerto Vallarta was reported to be thick with smoke from fires set by cartel operatives on Sunday. People there say the fighting appeared to have stopped yesterday and the State Department says the situation has returned to normal in the states of Quintana Roo, Sinaloa and Tamaulipas. There were no incidents reported yesterday in Tijuana. Some areas affected by the unrest were already on the US State Department’s “do not travel” or “reconsider travel” lists. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/23/travel/cartel-violence-mexico-el-mencho-travel-flights.html
