JPMorgan Chase has announced a new initiative called the Athlete Council to help professional athletes manage money from college through retirement. Not only do athletes make a lot of money compared to the average wage earner, but about one in six declares bankruptcy within a dozen years of retiring. The council will be led by Dwayne Wade and include Tom Brady, Sue Bid, Alex Morgan and others. The sports stars will meet with bank executives to help craft guidelines for athletes who don’t receive personal finance education in school and whose relatively short careers leave a narrow earning window that requires unique planning. Chase will also launch a content hub with checklists for those navigating the name, image and likeness system. https://www.cnbc.com/2026/03/18/jpmorgan-athlete-wealth-management-tom-brady-dwyane-wade.html
Macy’s, one of the few remaining traditional department stores beat fourth-quarter expectations, but warned of a rough year ahead. The company will refresh many of its stores while closing others. Beginning next year, Nissan will export Murano SUVs built in Smyrna, Tennessee to Japan. It’ll be the first American-made Nissan sold in Japan since the 1990s. Both Honda and Toyota had announced plans to export to Japan earlier this month. Honda will send U.S.-built Acura Integra Type S and Honda Passport TrailSport Elite models to Japan in the second half of this year. 95% of the Japanese car market is made up of locally-produced vehicles. Recent trade deals will allow US-made vehicles to be sold in Japan without meeting Japanese safety standards if they already meet US standards. That means the US-made exports will be left-hand drive, the same as vehicles sold here – not right-hand drive as is normally required of Japanese market vehicles. They’re also not expected to be sold in large numbers there. https://www.cnbc.com/2026/03/17/nissan-toyota-honda-export-japan.html
Kraft Heinz yesterday announced a new version of its iconic blue box mac & cheese called PowerMac. The longtime product has lost about 6% of its market share since 2022, most of it to health-conscious startups and cheaper private label brands. PowerMac will be pumped up with double the original version’s amount of protein. www.morningbrew.com

State Assemblymember James Ramos from the San Manuel reservation, other legislators, Native American and labor leaders held a rally at the Native American Monument in Sacramento’s Capitol Park this morning to urge passage of AB 1841 which was being heard in committee today. The bill would make California Native American Day a paid holiday for all state employees. Currently, it is only a paid holiday for state judicial employees. That was accomplished by a Ramos-sponsored bill introduced in 2021. (Asm. Ramos media release)
The state of Arizona has filed criminal charges against the prediction market platform, Kalshi, saying it’s actually an illegal gambling operation and taking bets on Arizona elections, both of which violate Arizona law. A Kalshi spokesperson says the company is federally regulated by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The prediction market in general is becoming a hotbed of controversy. An Israeli Defense Forces reservist was recently indicted for using classified information to place bets with Polymarket. And an Israeli reporter revealed that people tried to intimidate him into changing a story about a recent Iranian missile strike so they could win a bet on Polymarket. The reporter notified police and Polymarket, who banned the accounts of those involved. Both Polymarket and Kalshi report efforts to crack down on insider trading. www.morningbrew.com
