Boeing stock has been turning around lately as the aircraft company edged out Lockheed for a $20b jet fighter contract. But its troubles from recent years aren’t over. The family of a former Boeing quality control manager who killed himself just over a year ago after lawyers grilled him for days about his whistleblowing on alleged jumbo jet defects has sued the company for his wrongful death. The suit seeks unspecified amounts for emotional distress and mental anguish, back pay, ten years of lost future earnings and bonuses, health expenses and lost life insurance benefits. www.marketwatch.com https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/21/business/boeing-whistleblower-family-lawsuit-death-intl/index.html
DoorDash is partnering with financial company, Klarna to allow customers to buy now and pay later (BNPL). It’s a growing trend in the retail sector for smaller and smaller purchases as people try to match spending to paycheck schedules. The DoorDash plan launches soon and will allow four interest-free or deferred payments. BNPL providers make their money by charging merchants between 1 ½% and 7% of the transaction price. Economists and consumer advocates say the widespread use of BNPL services with little transparency or regulatory oversight leaves questions over just how much additional debt Americans are getting themselves into. https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/21/business/doordash-klarna-buy-now-pay-later-partnership/index.html

Is everybody happy? That depends on where you live. The annual World Happiness Report for 2025 dropped yesterday. It ranks 140 countries for quality of life and contentment. Finland is the perennial #1, with all Scandinavian countries scoring high. Denmark was #2, followed by Iceland, Sweden, Netherlands, Costa Rica, Norway and Israel. Mexico was #10. The US dropped to its lowest spot ever on the list at #24. We peaked at #11 in 2012. Afghanistan is once again at the bottom of the list, just below Sierra Leone and Lebannon. One of the big takeaways from this year’s report is that people are kinder and more generous that is widely believed and much of it is because of the pandemic. https://apnews.com/article/world-happiness-report-ranking-finland-afghanistan-us-b41c1712448762d98fe9e4f80233c15f
