The union representing 45k grocery store workers throughout Southern California has voted to authorize a strike against supermarket chains Albertsons and Kroger. No date has been set for a strike. The United Food and Commercial Workers contract with the chains expired March 2 and talks have been sparse since the chief federal mediator was fired as part of Trump administration cuts in federal workers. A separate vote is planned on whether to strike against Stater Bros. https://www.pressenterprise.com/2025/06/11/45000-southern-california-grocery-workers-authorize-strike-against-albertsons-kroger/

SPORTS
In the NBA championship series – Last night in Indianapolis, the Pacers retook the series lead, winning Game Three 116-107 over the Oklahoma City Thunder after trailing early in the fourth quarter. Interesting statistic – every time in the last three months that the Pacers have lost, as they did in Game Two, they’ve come back to win the next one. Game 4 will be Friday in Indianapolis at 5:30p on ABC. Game 5 will be Monday in Oklahoma City.
In the NHL Stanley Cup series – Game 4 between the Panthers and Oilers is tonight in Sunrise, Florida. The Panthers lead two games to one. https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/45483446/oilers-unravel-penalty-chaos-reigns-game-3-stanley-cup-final-loss-panthers
The New York Rangers are working on a trade with the Ducks to send Chris Kreider to Anaheim for a prospect and a draft pick. The Ducks would take over the final two years of Kreider’s $6.5m per year contract. Apparently all that’s needed is for Kreider to waive his no-trade protection. If he does, it would reunite him with former Rangers’ teammates Jacob Trouba and Ryan Strome. https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/45492284/sources-rangers-talks-trade-chris-kreider-ducks
In Major League Baseball – The Padres lost to the visiting Dodgers 5-2 yesterday. LA took two out of three in the series, dropping San Diego further into third place in the NL West as the Giants beat Colorado 10-7, winning their third straight game in Denver and extending their winning streak to 7. They still trail the first place Dodgers by a half game. The Padres are two games off the pace. The Angels swept their series against the visiting A’s with a 6-5 win yesterday afternoon in Anaheim. The Giants conclude their visit to Denver this afternoon. The rest of the SoCal teams are off today.
In Major League Soccer – This Saturday, San Diego FC is in St. Paul to play Minnesota Untied and the Galaxy are in St. Louis.
In Rugby – The San Diego Legion are the Western Conference number one seed for this year’s Major League Rugby playoffs. They will host the conference final on July 2. They are waiting to see who wins the eliminator round between Houston and Seattle this weekend.

Starbucks is testing a new protein cold foam at five U.S. locations. The banana-flavored foam is available on iced latte drinks. Protein drinks and shakes have exploded in popularity in recent years. According to Beverage Digest, protein shakes are now a $6b industry. The new item is part of a broader revamp of Starbucks menu. Other items currently being tested include a Strato Frappuccino and croissants baked fresh in-store. As new items are added, about 30% of Starbucks existing menu will be cut by the end of this fiscal year to make room. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/starbucks-protein-cold-foam/
