A Perris was standing outside her vehicle was hit and killed by a suspected DUI driver on northbound I-15 Saturday night.  33-year old Nancy Arzate had been involved in a solo-vehicle wreck just before 10 p.m.  Her Toyota Camry came to a rest perpendicular to traffic lanes on the freeway’s right shoulder.  She got out of the car and was standing near the driver’s door.   26-year-old Mason Michael Joachim of Carlsbad was heading toward the incident at about 70 mph in a 2003 Ford Edge. A vehicle swerved ahead of Joachim and he missed hitting it, but he struck Arzate and her car, according to the CHP.   Instead of remaining at the scene, Joachim allegedly fled on foot but was later found by the CHP. https://patch.com/california/temecula/weekend-i-15-fatality-temecula-blamed-dui-carlsbad-man-chp

A dead crow found in Clairemont last week tested positive for West Nile virus.  It’s the first bird to test positive this summer.  There have been no human West Nile virus cases reported this year, yet it remains a potentially deadly threat.  In 2015, 44 San Diegans tested positive and six died.  Mosquitoes are the usual initial source of the disease.  The county recommends preventing mosquito breeding, protecting yourself from mosquito bites, and reporting mosquito activity and dead birds.  https://www.countynewscenter.com/bird-tests-positive-for-west-nile-virus/
