An Oceanside beach is getting its first delivery of sand from a new city restoration and retention program called RE:BEACH. Work will take place over four to five days at the Tyson Street Beach, which is currently mostly cobble. The sand is being donated from the Front Wave Arena construction project and dredgings from the San Elijo Lagoon in Encinitas. Placing it on the beach at this time of year is beneficial to build seasonal sandbars that allow waves to break further offshore, reducing beach erosion on our built-out coastline. https://www.newsbreak.com/abc-10-news-kgtv-563645/4316385896064-city-of-oceanside-begins-first-sand-placement-project-on-tyson-street-beach

In Major League Baseball – World Series Game 3 is tonight at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The first two games in Toronto were a roller coaster ride. The Blue Jays busted out the offense, scoring nine runs in the 6th inning of Game One. Shohei Ohtani got a little back with a 2-run homer scoring Tommy Edman in the 7th. But that was all as Toronto won Game One 11-4. Then on Saturday, Dodger starter Yosinobu Yamamoto pitched his second consecutive complete game, striking out 8, and allowing four hits, no walks and just one run as the Dodgers easily won 5-1 with homers by Wil Smith and Max Muncey. The series comes to Los Angeles tonight tied at a game apiece.

A lawsuit by National Public Radio alleges that the Corporation for Public Broadcasting gave in to political pressure. CPB was the non-profit that funneled federal money to public broadcasting networks PBS and NPR as well as local public television and radio stations. Disclosure: Rez Radio has never been a CPB funding recipient. Among charges in the suit, CPB approved a multi-year, multimillion-dollar contract for NPR to operate a satellite distribution system to handle programming for public radio stations. Then, CPB unlawfully allegedly yielded to political pressure by cancelling the contract just days after President Trump warned that NPR should no longer receive federal money. CPB says it awarded the contract to a different group it felt would better serve all public radio stations, not just NPR members. https://www.npr.org/2025/10/27/nx-s1-5586147/npr-cpb-lawsuit-political-pressure

Investment experts are pondering whether there is an approaching AI bubble that could spell economic disaster far greater than the 2008 dot.com bubble burst, which took the economy 15 years to recover from. 80% of U.S. stock gains this year have come from AI companies. If AI tech can keep getting better, then AI companies can keep getting more valuable and the boom will continue. But big-name players like Jeff Bezos from Amazon, Sam Altman from OpenAI, Jamie Dimon from JP Morgan, and David Solomon from Goldman Sachs all warn that valuations on companies leading the AI boom are getting too high. If they are and reality sets in, the companies’ valuations will plunge and take the entire economy with them. So far, leading companies, like Nvidia have had earnings to back up their euphoric rise in stock prices and the market is not sure what the ceiling is for their chip sales. But seven tech companies now account for more than one third of the total value of the S&P 500 with their stock trading at an average of 70 times their earnings. Combine that with eight in ten U.S. businesses reporting they already use generative AI with most reporting “no significant bottom-line impact” from doing so, and you have an investment spending spree based almost totally on speculation. They’re betting on scaling principles to continue indefinitely and that the smart people at those companies are infallible. Meanwhile, many AI companies continue to buy from and simultaneously invest in each other in “circular” deals. If AI fails to deliver on expectations and that becomes the word on Wall Street, investors will sell off and the bubble will pop. www.NYTimes.com
LIFESTYLE / GREEN LIVING
At the movie box office over the weekend, it’s appropriate that the week before Halloween, a horror film would come in #1. “Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc” debuted with ticket sales of $17.2m, besting the second week take for “Black Phone 2” by $4m. “Regretting You” debuted in third place with $12.8m. The Disney biopic “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere” opened in fourth with $9.1m. “Shelby Oaks” debuted in 7th with $2.3m on half as many screens as the others. The total attendance at the weekend’s top ten films was 11% better than last weekend, but still well below average for the year. https://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/2025W43/
One of the last surviving stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age and most-beloved of all television moms died Thursday at her home in Santa Monica. June Lockhart’s acting career spanned 88 years, beginning on stage with the New York Metropolitan Opera at age 8. In her first film, she was one of the Cratchit children opposite her real-life parents in the 1938 version of “A Christmas Carol”. Other credits included “Sergeant York”, “Meet Me in St. Louis” and “The Yearling”. Her biggest fame came when she took over from Cloris Leachman as Ruth Martin in season six of TV’s “Lassie”. Leachman had left after a single season saying the role was unchallenging. Lockhart stayed for six seasons and 200 episodes. During that time, she received two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame – one for TV and one for film. She became a TV mom for a second time in 1965 on “Lost in Space” which ran for three years, including 84 episodes. Decades of TV guest shots and film supporting roles followed including six years of hosting the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants and the Tournament of Roses and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parades on CBS. Her most recent work was as the voice of Alpha Control in one episode of 2021’s Netflix reboot of “Lost in Space” when she was 96. Although from the generation before rock and roll, Lockhart was a fan of rock music and once took her young Lost is Space co-stars to an LA club to see the Allman Brothers. June Lockhart married twice and had two daughters with her first husband. She turned 100 this past … what else? June. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_Lockhart

ORDERS
- Masks are optional for all Pala tribal employees, vendors and other visitors except in designated high-risk departments. Social distancing of 6 feet, hand sanitizing and other safety measures are still recommended.
- Californians, are no longer required to wear masks in most indoor public places. It’s now only a recommendation. Masks are now optional on public transportation, in airports and in taxis. They’re still required in most hospitals and doctor’s offices. Masks and other coverings don’t have to be hospital grade, but N95 is recommended. Cotton fabric which can easily be washed and reused has proven to be less effective at preventing the spread of coronavirus.
- County Health advises that anyone who is sick with anything – diagnosed or not, stay home and not return to work until at least 3 days after they are fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medicines and at least 7 days after symptoms began. They define fever as 100 degrees or more.
- Pala Administration no longer requires a negative test before returning to work after a Covid quarantine. The rules for Covid are now the same as for colds and flu – no return to work until symptom and fever-free for 48 hours. But no test is necessary.
