Seventy-six percent of Americans are planning to travel this holiday season – more at Christmas than at Thanksgiving. According to investment company IPX1031, the average budget for holiday travel is just over $2k. Half of those travelers are worried about airport delays and flight cancellations. Yet 85% of travelers do not purchase travel insurance. Over the past year, the average consumer cost for delays and cancellations was $161. That’s only slightly more than the average 7% – or $140 cost of insurance on $2k worth of travel. One third of Americans refuse to fly certain airlines due to past bad experiences with that carrier. The airports experiencing the most cancellations include Dallas/Fort Worth, Newark, LaGuardia in New York, George Bush Intercontinental in Houston, and Portland International. The airports travelers report trying to avoid the most include Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta, O’Hare in Chicago, and JFK International in New York. https://www.ipx1031.com/holiday-travel-airport-statistics-report/
Some good news from the American Farm Bureau today. This year’s Thanksgiving dinner will cost you less at the supermarket than last year. The cost of a 16-pound turkey is down about 6% to an average of about $27 and there are some discount promotional deals to be had. Grocery Outlet leads the pack with turkeys up to 14 pounds at $3.99 each. The total cost of a holiday meal for ten will average just over $58. That’s down 5% from 2023 and 9% from 2022, the year that saw the highest increase in the history of the Farm Bureau report. The only items in this year’s holiday meal that saw a price increase were the processed foods, like dinner rolls and cubed stuffing due to higher labor costs. https://time.com/7177710/thanksgiving-turkey-meal-costs/
