Homes are increasingly being taken off the market at the fastest pace in a decade. Weak buyer demand, weakening prices and overall economic uncertainty caused 85k U.S. homeowners to delist their homes in September. They’ve decided they’d rather wait to sell than accept a low offer. The rate is 28% more than one year ago and the highest level in 8 months, according to Redfin, who says 70% of the listings in September had been on the market more than 60 days. https://www.cnbc.com/2025/11/25/home-sellers-delisting-redfin.html
Best Buy is optimistic for holiday sales. They’ve raised their full-year sales and earnings outlook after three years of declining sales. LIFESTYLE / GREEN LIVING
The White House is floating a proposal to extend subsidies to help consumers pay for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act for two more years. The current credits are set to expire at the end of the year and were the main point of contention to ending the government shutdown. Democratic lawmakers wanted a full extension of the credits. This possible new extension is likely to meet with resistance from hard core conservatives who have sought to repeal and replace what is commonly known as Obamacare for over a decade. There’s nothing definite about this new proposal until President Trump announces it. www.APNews.com
Americans are rethinking what it means to celebrate. Heading into the holidays with all the accompanying celebrating and feasting, new data from Circana shows that 49% of us plan to cut back on alcohol. That’s a significant double-digit jump from last year. It breaks down with Gen Z having the highest percentage, as 65% plan to drink less next year and 39% will give it up entirely. That’s leading to an increased interest in sober bars, which 41% of Gen-Z plan to visit. 58% of all people surveyed plan to try a non-alcoholic beverage option, and one in four want to sample THC- or CBD-infused drinks. Top reasons for cutting back include: improving physical health, saving money, and boosting mental health. www.digitalthirdcoast.net
Speaking of THC- and CBD-infused drinks, a new law threatens this new product segment at your local Total Wine or convenience store. The Congressional bill that ended the government shutdown included a one-year deadline to close the loophole that allows the sale of drinks whose active ingredient comes from hemp. Despite U.S. policy distinctions, hemp and marijuana are cultivars of the same plant, Cannabis sativa L. which is still illegal at the federal level. The legal distinction between hemp and marijuana is the level of THC in them. Hemp is capped at 0.3% THC. Hemp products can be shipped from state to state and sold where local laws allow. As of September, THC beverages were legal in 28 states and legal with restrictions in nine others. Six states have banned them. Seven others require them to be sold only in marijuana dispensaries. Measures are before the House and Senate to either repeal the hemp loophole section of the new spending bill, standardize testing and monitoring of hemp, or even ease its regulation. In any case, regulations pertaining to hemp, marijuana and products derived from them are not likely to become simple anytime soon. https://www.npr.org/2025/11/24/nx-s1-5609336/hemp-thc-drinks-cannabis-marijuana-farm-bill
On this day in music history – November 25,
- 1965, before there was officially such a thing as Black Friday, Harrods department store in London closed to the public so The Beatles, then at the height of their popularity could do their Christmas shopping in private without being mobbed by fans … who probably also would have destroyed the store.
- In 1966, The Jimi Hendrix Experience made their live performance debut at the Bag O’Nails Club in London. The club didn’t have a stage, so they used the DJ booth, playing for an influential music industry crowd. The club was a hangout for Eric Clapton, Pete Townsend, Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and all four of The Beatles.
- In 1972, Chuck Berry was at #1 with “My Ding-a-Ling”. Originally recorded by Dave Bartholomew in 1952, Berry’s hit version was recorded live at a concert in England in February of ’72. Boston radio DJ Jim Connors was credited with a recording industry gold record for discovering the song, promoting it to his peers and pushing it to the top of the chart.
- In 1974, singer songwriter Nick Drake died in his sleep at age 26 from an overdose of anti-depressant medication. His 1972 song “Pink Moon” was revived in a Volkswagen TV commercial in 2000. Within a month, Drake posthumously sold more records that he had in the previous 30 years.
- In 1976, The Band gave their final performance on Thanksgiving Day at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. The show, which also included Joni Mitchell, Dr. John, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Neil Diamond and Eric Clapton was filmed by Martin Scorsese and released as the documentary “The Last Waltz” two years later.
- In 1984, dozens of British music artists gathered at a London studio to record the benefit single, “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” Written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, it raised over $13.6m for hunger relief worldwide.

- Exactly three years later, in 1995 Whitney was at #1 with “Exhale” from the film, “Waiting to Exhale”. It was her 11th #1 hit.

- On the same day, Meat Loaf underwent heart surgery to correct a condition that led to his collapse on stage eight days earlier.
- In 2007, Kevin Dubrow, front man for Quiet Riot was found dead at his home in Las Vegas at age 52. The band’s 1983 album “Metal Health” was the first heavy metal album to top the charts.
- In 2010, a restaurant in Massachusetts fell victim to a prankster who order 178 pizzas claiming they were for Bob Dylan and his crew, who were appearing at a concert in Amherst. The imposter wore a fake pass for a Dylan concert. The restaurant worked until 5:30a to make the nearly $4k worth of pizzas which no one claimed.
