In the NHL – Just two games last night. Buffalo beat the visiting Hurricanes 4-2. And Edmonton topped the Wild in Minneapolis 5-3.
In Major League Baseball – Former player, part time actor, and longtime announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers, Bob Uecker has died. He played backup catcher and had a Major League career ERA of .200 over six seasons in his hometown of Milwaukee as well as St. Louis, Philadelphia and Atlanta. He’d been a good power hitter with 22 home runs in the minors in 1958. His career total in the Majors was only 14, but three of them were off of eventual Hall of Famers. He was a member of the 1964 World Championship Cardinals team, playing in 40 games that year. But he didn’t appear in the Fall Classic that season. According to Uecker, he was iced out due to “the tuba incident.” As he tells it, there were three Dixieland bands playing in the outfield during batting practice before a game. He donned one of their tubas and used it instead of his glove to shag fly balls. Management didn’t appreciate the humor and he had to pay $260 for a dented tuba. After his on-field career, Uecker failed as a minor league scout. Then he moved to the radio broadcast booth for the Brewers where his quick wit found its true calling and he remained there for 54 years. Uecker was given the name Mr. Baseball by Johnny Carson thanks to about 100 hilarious appearances on the “The Tonight Show” which led to a series of commercials for Miller Lite, a starring role in the TV sitcom “Mr. Belvedere” and a supporting part in the “Major League” film trilogy. “Juuuuust a bit outside”. Bob Uecker was ten days short of his 91st birthday. https://www.mlb.com/news/bob-uecker-dies

LIFESTYLE / GREEN LIVING
The US Food and Drug Administration has finally banned Red Dye #3 from food products. It had been allowed for the past 50 years to give foods a bright red color, even though it’s been known all that time to cause cancer in lab rats. Officially known as FD&C Red No. 3, it was banned from cosmetics and topical drugs 35 years ago. Fearing a potential lawsuit because there was no proof it caused cancer in humans, the FDA stopped short of banning it from consumables. Food manufacturers now have until 2027 to eliminate it from their products. Sensing the impending ban, many manufacturers already have replaced it with beet juice, carmine and other natural colorings. www.morningbrew.com

He may be best-known for “Twin Peaks” – both the TV series and the 1992 Twin Peaks film, “Fire Walk With Me”. Lynch also directed commercials and music videos for artists including Nine Inch Nails, Moby and Interpol. He was a published musician himself, and an accomplished painter. For nearly a decade, he drew his own comic strip, “The Angriest Dog in the World”. A longtime smoker, Lynch had been battling emphysema for several years. https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-news/david-lynch-lynch-dead-obituary-1235238117/
