LIFESTYLE / GREEN LIVING

Over the weekend at the movies, “Tron: Ares” debuted in first place, selling $33m worth of tickets.  It’s the third in the series about living in the digital “Grid” that began in 1982.  “Roofman” about a charismatic criminal on the run debuted in second place with $8m.  “One Battle After Another” dropped one place to 3rd, “Gabby’s DollHouse: The Movie was 4th.   And “Soul on Fire” opened in 5th place with a low $3m on less than half as many screens as the others.  Total attendance for this weekend’s top ten films was the 5th lowest for a three-day weekend this year. https://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/2025W41/

Actress, Diane Keaton, best known for her Oscar-winning title role in one of Woody Allen’s most successful movies, “Annie Hall” died Saturday at the age of 79.  That character also established her as a fashion icon.  Other career highlights included recurring roles in “The Godfather” franchise, “The First Wives Club”, “Manhattan”, the “Father of the Bride” remakes and “Baby Boom”.  Though associated with New York through many of her films, Keaton was born in Los Angeles and educated at Santa Ana and Orange Coast Colleges.  Her professional career began on Broadway in “Hair” and Woody Allen’s comic play, “Play It Again, Sam”.  At about that time, she had a brief, unrealized career as a singer.  Keaton worked steadily at acting for the next 55 years.  Her final roles were in “Arthur’s Whiskey” and “Summer Camp” last year.  She had three projects in pre-production including “The Making Of” with Blake Lively and Richard Gere.  The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call Saturday for medical assistance and later transported a person from Keaton’s address to a hospital.  The cause of death remains unclear.  https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/celebrities/2025/10/11/diane-keaton-cause-of-death/86646067007/

They don’t need no stinking badges.  Instead, employees at the new $3b Midtown Manhattan headquarters of JPMorgan Chase will need to bioscan to get into the building.  Though initially said to be voluntary, biometric access is now required to get into the skyscraper at 270 Park Avenue either by palm or fingerprint – or possibly even ocular scans.  The strict measures are the result of the deadly shooting in July at the nearby headquarters of the NFL.  More than 10k JPMorgan employees will be working there when it fully opens before the end of the year.  According to Fortune magazine, the 60 floors of workspace includes a 19-restaurant food court and Irish pub, an art collection, lighting to match workers’ circadian rhythms, and its own signature scent.  One assumes it’ll be different from New York City’s signature scent, which is often garbage.  JPMorgan has plans to supplement the new building by renovating neighboring structures to create a multi-block campus – a big turnaround from the work-from-home paradigm of just a couple of years ago.
