Two people were injured and another arrested for a stabbing outside a San Marcos supermarket yesterday. The fight and assault happened at the Stater Brothers store on East Mission Road shortly before 12:30p yesterday. Nearby firefighters intervened and held the alleged assailant until Sheriff’s deputies arrived. They also administered medical aid to two victims. Both victims were transported to a hospital with the man suffering serious injuries – less-serious for the woman. The 20-year old assailant was arrested and charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. The three apparently all knew each other. No other details released by the Sheriff’s Department. https://www.10news.com/news/local-news/1-person-hurt-1-arrested-in-stabbing-at-san-marcos-supermarket

The Temecula school board voted unanimously on Tuesday to protect students’ privacy alongside transgender students in shared spaces such as restrooms and locker rooms. As part of the newly proposed policy, a student or parent can request privacy accommodations by contacting the school’s administration, who would then email a form to the parents followed by a conversation between the student, family and school to find an appropriate accommodation. The form and other details are to be finalized at the board’s September 30 meeting. https://www.pressenterprise.com/2025/09/10/temecula-schools-revise-rules-for-transgender-students-in-locker-rooms-restrooms/

SPORTS
In Major League Baseball – The Padres lost again. This time, the visiting Reds rallied in the 8th inning to win 2-1. Tonight, is the Padres last chance to avoid a sweep. The Dodgers shut out Colorado 9-0. LA is now 3 games ahead of San Diego. The Giants are 8 games behind the Dodgers after losing 5-3 to Arizona. The Angels edged the visiting Twins 4-3. All those series wrap up today.
In the NFL – Week 2 begins tonight with the Commanders at Green Bay. Both teams are off to promising starts with off-season and opening wins. The game will be available only on Prime Video.
In college football – Week 3 begins today with NC State at Wake Forest on ESPN. UCLA has a game tomorrow hosting New Mexico.
In the NBA – According to Commissioner Adam Silver, the league will take its time deciding whether a business relationship between Kawhi Leonard and a California company was just a way for the Clippers to get around salary cap rules. An independent investigation is currently underway into whether the $28m endorsement contract between Leonard and Aspiration Fund Adviser, LLC – which filed for bankruptcy earlier this year – broke league rules. https://apnews.com/article/nba-kawhi-leonard-clippers-investigation-02782c17b05c9326679ddcdd4fd0ffe4
In college basketball – The NCAA has banned three college basketball players at Fresno State and San Jose State for betting on their own games and then sharing thousands of dollars in payouts with family and friends. Text messages suggest that one of them, Mykel Robinson, who was then with Fresno State and is now at San Jose State underperformed in a game on January 7 against Colorado State to influence the outcome. He’s been found to have placed more than a dozen other improper wagers the previous year. https://apnews.com/article/gambling-ncaa-fresno-state-san-jose-state-79cb4a2a1f9f23a2cb22902a9694aca1

As of midday trading on Wall Street, stocks were up significantly while Treasury yields fell in reaction to rising inflation and jobless claims. The Dow was up 1.3%. The S&P 500 gained 8 tenths of a percent. The Nasdaq was up 7 tenths. All three are in record territory. Gold fell $9.20 on the Comex to $3,672.80 an ounce. West Texas Intermediate Crude oil futures were down $1.12 to $62.55 a barrel.
Inflation in August was at an annualized rate of 2.9% – up two tenths from July, which was only up one tenth from June. So, not only is inflation continuing to increase, it’s increasing faster than at any other time this year. Stripping away the volatile food and energy segments, “core” inflation for August was an annualized 3.1%. The August numbers cover a period when President Trump raised tariffs on goods from many U.S. trading partners. Though many of those tariffs were declared illegal by a federal appeals court, they remain in effect pending review by the U.S. Supreme Court, which is scheduled to do that in November. The Federal Reserve doesn’t like to cut interest rates when inflation is rising. But joblessness is increasing as well, and that’s something the Fed fights with rate cuts. https://www.npr.org/2025/09/11/nx-s1-5537074/inflation-economy-grocery-gas-federal-reserve
As a result of the announcement by Oracle of hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of contracted revenue from cloud deals with major AI players, Oracle’s stock shot up 43% yesterday morning before settling the day up 36% – its biggest single-day gain in 30 years. In the process, it pushed company co-founder and chairman Larry Ellison past Elon Musk as the world’s richest person. The surge in stock value added over $100b to his net worth, which yesterday reached as much as $400b, compared to Musk’s $393b. But Oracle’s future is tied to continued exponential growth at OpenAI. As its biggest client, the maker of ChatGPT will pay Oracle $300b over the next five years for its cloud computing services. Currently, OpenAI annually only makes about one fifth what it’s going to owe Oracle. An AI bubble burst now would severely impact Oracle. Oracle’s other major clients include xAI and Meta. www.morningbrew.com
Demand for new and refinanced home mortgages is up thanks to the average 30-year fixed rate falling to 6.35% this week. That’s down from 6 ½% one week ago. Purchase applications are at their highest year-over-year growth rate in more than four years, according to Freddie Mac’s chief economist. About half the applications are to refinance from higher-rate mortgages initiated over the past several years. https://www.npr.org/2025/09/11/nx-s1-5538103/home-mortgage-rates-drop-september

A bill was introduced yesterday in Sacramento to boost oil production in California. SB 237 calls for immediate implementation of some recent recommendations by the California Energy Commission to mitigate the impact of announced closures of in-state refineries operated by Philips 66 and Valero over the next few months. The affected plants account for about 18% of the state’s crude oil refining capacity. Advocates say the bill will protect safety requirements on idle petroleum pipelines and ensure supply stability. Environmentalists are against it. Either way, the decision will be a quick one. The state legislature was scheduled to adjourn tomorrow. It will now stay in session through Saturday. Other last-minute legislation on the docket includes bills to increase oil production in Kern County and to pave the way for California to join a regional electricity transmission grid with other Western states – potentially lowering energy costs for customers. https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2025/09/10/last-minute-bill-aimed-at-boosting-california-oil-production-introduced/
On this day in music history – September 11,
- 1956, police had to break up a crowd of rowdy teens following a screening of “Rock Around the Clock” at the Trocadero Cinema in London. A letter to the Times the next morning said of the demon rock and roll, “The hypnotic rhythm and the wild gestures have a maddening effect on a rhythm loving age group and the result of its impact is the relaxing of all self-control.” The film was quickly banned in several British cities.
- In 1962, at producer George Martin’s insistence, session drummer Andy White took Ringo Starr’s place for the Beatles’ third attempt at recording what would be their first single, “Love Me Do”. The single with “P.S. I Love You” on the flip side had Ringo on drums, but the album version was Andy White.
- In 1964, the winner of a Mick Jagger look alike competition was a 16-year old introduced as Laurie Yarham. The audience at Greenwich Town Hall were amazed at the resemblance and accurate mannerisms. It later turned out to be Mick’s younger brother, Chris Jagger.
- In 1967, filming began on The Beatles’ “Magical Mystery Tour”. The project had no script, not even an outline for what was to happen or even where the bus full of people was to go. It shows in the end result – one of the more disappointing Beatles projects.
- In 1970, Jimi Hendrix gave what would be his final interview to NME’s Keith Alston in England. In it talked about planned upcoming collaborations with Miles Davis and Paul McCartney. Hendrix died one week later.
- In 1971, Donny Osmond began the first of three weeks at #1 with “Go Away Little Girl”, a song which had also been #1 for Steve Lawrence in 1963.
- On the same day, the Jackson Five animated series began as a Saturday morning feature on the ABC network.
- In 1976, KC and the Sunshine Band were at #1 with “Shake Your Booty”.
- In 1977, David Bowie performed a duet with Bing Crosby on Bing’s TV Christmas special of “Peace on Earth – Little Drummer Boy” that has since become a staple in Christmas music programming.
- In 1982, John Mellencamp became the first male solo artist to have two top ten singles and the #1 album simultaneously, “Jack and Diane” at #4, “Hurts So Good” at #8 with the album “American Fool” at #1 for the first of nine weeks.
- In 1987, founding member of The Wailers, Peter Tosh was shot and killed by armed robbers at his home in Jamaica.
- In 1993, Mariah Carey began the first of eight weeks at #1 with “Dreamlover”.
- Also in 1993, Tommy Chong of Cheech and Chong was sentenced to 9 months in federal prison for selling drug paraphernalia over the Internet. He’d pleaded guilty in May and began his sentence the following April.
Born on this day …
- in 1943, guitarist and lead singer for the Kingsmen, Jack Ely, who’s “Louie, Louie” was banned on some radio stations for allegedly containing naughty words. The way Ely sang them, nobody really knew – which was later confirmed in court.
- On the same day, Mickey Hart, one of two drummers for The Grateful Dead.
- In 1946, Dennis Trufano, lead singer with The Buckinghams.
- In 1953, Tommy Shaw from Styx and Damn Yankees.
- In 1965, Moby.
- In 1967, Harry Connick Jr.
- In 1977, Ludacris.
- In 1981, singer songwriter from Lady A, Charles Kelley.

ORDERS
- Masks are optional for all Pala tribal employees, vendors and other visitors except in designated high-risk departments. Social distancing of 6 feet, hand sanitizing and other safety measures are still recommended.
- Californians, are no longer required to wear masks in most indoor public places. It’s now only a recommendation. Masks are now optional on public transportation, in airports and in taxis. They’re still required in most hospitals and doctor’s offices. Masks and other coverings don’t have to be hospital grade, but N95 is recommended. Cotton fabric which can easily be washed and reused has proven to be less effective at preventing the spread of coronavirus.
- County Health advises that anyone who is sick with anything – diagnosed or not, stay home and not return to work until at least 3 days after they are fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medicines and at least 7 days after symptoms began. They define fever as 100 degrees or more.
- Pala Administration no longer requires a negative test before returning to work after a Covid quarantine. The rules for Covid are now the same as for colds and flu – no return to work until symptom and fever-free for 48 hours. But no test is necessary.
