LIFESTYLE / GREEN LIVING

Four new wide releases this weekend at the movies.  The music industry thriller, “Mother Mary” starring Anne Hathaway expands from just five screens last week.  It’s about a pop star reuniting with her estranged best friend.   “Amrum” is a historic war drama centered on a 12-year old boy growing up on an idyllic windswept island in 1945.  There’s also a second historic war drama this weekend.  “Desert Warrior” has some action-adventure thrown in for good measure.  And the biography, “Michael” starring Jaafar Jackson as the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. https://www.boxofficemojo.com/calendar/?ref_=bo_nb_hm_tab

Co-founder of the 60’s rock group, Traffic and writer of classic songs including “Feelin’ Alright” and “Hole in My Shoe”, Dave Mason died this week at the age of 79.  Born in Worcester, England, Mason was a professional musician by his teens, releasing his first single as a member of the instrumental group, the Jaguars in 1963 called “Opus to Spring”.  It was in that group that he met future Traffic drummer, Jim Capaldi.  In 1966, Mason became road manager for the Spencer Davis Group where he met keyboardist Steve Winwood.  The three, along with flautist Chris Wood formed Traffic the following year, releasing the 1967 classic album “Mr. Fantasy”.  Mason first went solo in 1970.  His debut album included, “Only You Know and I Know” which became a hit for Delaney & Bonnie when they covered it the following year.  The song he’s best-known for, “We Just Disagree” from 1977 was written by a member of his backup band.  Mason enjoyed a long career collaborating with other music legends including Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Michael Jackson and Leon Russell.  Mason is the one you hear on the opening 12-string riff of Jimi Hendrix’ version of “All Along the Watchtower”.  In the 1990s, he was briefly a member of Fleetwood Mac.  No cause given for Dave Mason’s death, but he’d cancelled a concert tour last year after being diagnosed with a serious heart condition. https://variety.com/2026/music/obituaries-people-news/dave-mason-dead-traffic-feelin-alright-rock-hall-fame-1236727460/
