It would be restricted to players who are at least 18 years old and consist of 12 rounds with an initial signing bonus pool of $200m for 360 amateur players outside the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. The first draft would between the fall of 2027 and early 2028. Under the current system, players have been getting drafted as young as 16. Lloyd’s List Intelligence said today that ships are beginning to move through the Strait of Hormuz for the first time in 110 days. They didn’t say how many, but confirmed that they included tankers owned by Grimaldi Group, Cocso, Knutsen, and NYK. Lloyd’s estimates that 550 merchant ships need to prepare to exit the Persian Gulf, including 160 tankers. Vice President JD Vance says the Navy has lifted its blockade of the Strait, allowing some ships into Iranian ports. https://apnews.com/article/strait-of-hormuz-iran-us-shipping-war-01c1335e69e40f2ee921e25e59a18a71
Columbia Business School reports that even if the deal to end the war holds, it’ll take time for prices on everything to come down, if they ever do. The experts there say it’s unclear if anything has been achieved by the Iran war that makes the American consumer better off, and that in fact, “the world is worse off as a result of this attack.” Fuel prices are likely to decrease. They already have, some. It’ll take longer on the West Coast where refining capacity is strained. Don’t expect air fares to go down anytime soon. Airlines buy their fuel on long-term contracts and adjust schedules and prices gradually. The removal of fuel surcharges by some airlines should be the first indication air fare prices are easing. It’ll take months for food prices to go down, if they ever do. Manufacturers are hesitant to lower prices when the future is uncertain. Higher shipping costs and some items being out of stock are likely to last at least through the end of this year. https://apnews.com/article/iran-war-prices-gasoline-groceries-flights-9c413bc111efcfa9bac53b20e9057738
Yum Brands announced Tuesday that it will sell Pizza Hut to private equity firm, LongRange Capital for about $1.5b. That doesn’t include the mainland China portion of the 68-year old pizza chain. That will be purchased by Yum China Holdings for $1.2b. Yum Brands, which also owns KFC and Taco Bell has been looking to sell its money-losing Pizza Hut division since November. Pizza Hut had just under 20k restaurants worldwide at the end of last year. Yum announced in February that it was closing 250 of them in the U.S. Pizza Hut was founded by two brothers in Wichita, Kansas in 1958. The familiar red roof was adopted in 1968 and by 1971, Pizza hut was the top pizza chain in the world by total sales. It was overtaken by Domino’s in the 1980s with their 30-minute delivery guarantee. Connecticut-based LongRange Capital previously engineered a turnaround for Arby’s. https://apnews.com/article/yum-brands-pizza-hut-348bb9ea9f68e559aba6663f2b9e45ac

Today’s average price in San Diego County is $5.65. In Riverside County, it’s $5.46. The lowest local price is $4.79 at Horizon Fuel in Valley Center. In southwest Riverside County, it’s $5.14 at Murrieta Costco. https://www.gasbuddy.com/gaspricemap?lat=33.36830911326369&lng=-117.03732225543753&z=11
Even if you don’t do your own oil changes on your vehicles, you’ve probably noticed the cost of oil changes has been rising. You’d assume it had to do with the crude oil bottleneck in the Middle East and its effect on world oil and fuel prices. But even with the current peace deal being signed with Iran, the cost of mechanical lubricants isn’t going down anytime soon. The base oil used to blend now widely-used synthetic motor oil has tripled in price. And even though the U.S. is a net-exporter of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, we are a net-importer of the refined base oil used in synthetic motor oil. According to market insight firm, Independent Commodity Intelligence Services, the U.S. has the largest trade deficit in the world for “group III base oil” used to make synthetic motor oils. 45% of our imports of it come from the Middle East. Although South Korea is also a major supplier of Group III base oil, they are also dependent on the Middle East for the crude oil from which it’s made. So, it’s currently in short supply there too. U.S. refineries could switch from making Group II base oil, which is used in conventional motor oil. But they’re not making much of that because diesel is more profitable right now. So, conventional motor oil is also currently very expensive. While supplies might even-out a year from now, expect prices on motor oil to get worse before they get better. And that’s on top of tariffs causing the prices of oil filters and other car parts to increase significantly this year. https://www.npr.org/2026/06/16/nx-s1-5847024/motor-oil-iran-war
