His estate announced back in February, just days after their second Super Bowl win that the team would be sold. Paul Allen bought the team in 1997 for $194m. The deal is still subject to NFL approval, and will require that Khosla divest his 3% interest in the San Francisco 49ers. https://apnews.com/article/seahawks-sold-0f721adeec4cc06b0093b552b858785d

12 states including California are suing to prevent the merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery. California Attorney General Rob Bonta is leading the group. The U.S. Department of Justice had already signed off on the deal which would create the largest portfolio of TV networks in the U.S. including CBS, MTV, BET, CNN, TNT and others. It would also combine Paramount and Warner Bros. film studios as well as streaming platforms Paramount+ and HBO Max. Today’s lawsuit raises concerns over the size of the combined company which would control nearly one third of all films and basic cable TV programming. The European Union is still reviewing the deal before approval, with a deadline of July 22. https://www.cnbc.com/2026/07/13/paramount-wbd-merger-lawsuit.html
A Florida judge has issued a blistering order, criticizing President Trump’s $10b lawsuit against the IRS for the leak of his tax information by an agency contractor. Judge Kathleen William says the suit was filed to gain the appearance of “judicial legitimacy” through settlement with the Justice Department, which Trump effectively controls. That settlement included the creation of $1.8b “lawfare” fund that was ultimately abandoned after complaints in Congress. The judge also referred Trump’s lead lawyer, Alejandro Brito to the Florida bar association for possible discipline. https://www.cnbc.com/2026/07/13/trump-irs-doj-lawsuit-blanche.html

European Union investigators have decided that Meta’s Facebook and Instagram apps are too addictive, causing compulsive use, luring younger users into what they called “autopilot mode”. Meta will now have to make changes to avoid massive fines of up to 6% of its annual global revenue. The company disagrees with the report but will “engage constructively” with regulators. Some EU suggestions before a final judgement is issued are for Meta to disable autoplay and infinite scroll, implement screen time breaks, and make its recommendation algorithm less “engagement oriented.” www.morningbrew.com
It wasn’t that long ago that cord-cutting in favor of on-demand streaming services was all the rage. Now, one of those on-demand streaming services wants to start acting like the old cable live TV services everyone left behind. Netflix is the #1 streamer based on subscribers, but its audience share is down 40% over the past year. Faced with declining engagement, which often precedes subscription cancellations, Netflix wants to start carrying live channels that constantly stream shows and movies of a specific genre. Services like Sling, Pluto and others already make their money doing that. Live TV would mean more ad sales for Netflix, which already bills about $1.5b a year and hopes to double that in the coming year. Other ideas to improve viewership at Netflix include bundling with other subscription-based streaming platforms and selling the packages through their main app, the way Amazon, Apple, Sling and others already do. www.morningbrew.com
A proposed settlement with the U.S. Government would have Keystone Pipeline’s system operator pay a $26.9m civil penalty for a major oil spill in Kansas 3 ½ year ago and spend $40m to prevent future accidents. 13k barrels of heavy crude spilled into a creek running through a rural pasture 150 miles northwest of Kansas City. It was the largest onshore pipeline spill in nine years and worse than all others ever combined on the Keystone Pipeline. https://apnews.com/article/keystone-oil-spill-kansas-south-bow-0e71b2303a5f23958c5f6cd1216b41d4
