Then Pittsburgh rallied for 8 runs in the 7th and 8th inning including the second of rookie Tyler Callahan’s first two Major League home runs. LA got two more in the 9th. But it wasn’t enough as the Pirates beat the Dodgers 9-8. Miami shut out the Diamondbacks 8-0. That puts the Padres a game ahead of Arizona for second place and 7 ½ games behind the Dodgers. As of midday trading on Wall Street, stocks regained a good portion of yesterday’s losses. The Dow was up 1 ¾%. The S&P 500 rose 1.4%. And the Nasdaq gained 1.9%. According to global commercial real estate services company, JLL, commercial real estate is seeing record levels of lending activity. Data centers are driving much of the activity with competitiveness of loan terms reaching a record-high in April. There are also a near-record number of lenders driving the activity, driving up loan-to-value rates. Compared to the S&P, which is close to all-time highs, commercial real estate is still at an attractive entry point. Refinancing is also driving the boom. https://www.cnbc.com/2026/06/10/jll-commercial-real-estate-record-lending-competition-april.html
If you can’t beat ‘em, love ‘em. President Trump yesterday said he loves inflation. That was his response when questioned about this week’s Labor Department inflation report showing the May Consumer Price Index up to an annualized 4.2% – the highest rate since April of 2023. Trump had pledged in his 2024 campaign to reign in inflation. But now he argues that higher prices are solely because of the Iran war raising energy costs. He claimed yesterday that relief is on the way because of a secret military operation that has moved 100m barrels of oil through the supposedly-closed Strait of Hormuz, the primary shipping channel for 20% of the world’s oil. He claimed that’s why crude oil prices have backed off from a high of $110 a barrel to below $90. Whatever the reason for Trump’s comment, it flies in the face of affordability being the number one issue on the minds of voters. https://apnews.com/article/trump-love-inflation-democrats-affordability-midterms-603791c93c785221dae8be6df14d807d
Spotify’s problem with podcast that promote opioids was bigger than first thought. Business Insider reported in May of last year that over 200 Spotify podcasts were peddling opioids and that they’d been removed. CNN found dozens more after that. Now, Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan says Spotify told her that from May through November of last year, the company had removed over 57k podcasts, including 3k shows and 3,500 accounts promoting illegal drugs. This included an episode including a link to a drug-selling website that was later seized by the DEA, but which Spotify had not reported to law enforcement. Spotify denies charges by the Senator that it was slow to act against offending podcasts and producers, and did not respond to questions about why it didn’t report any of the episodes to authorities. https://www.businessinsider.com/spotify-opioid-podcast-crackdown-removes-57000-episodes-globally-2026-6

The listing price for SpaceX shares in the IPO is expected to be released this afternoon. Trading begins tomorrow under the ticker symbol SPCX. It will become one of the big three AI companies along with OpenAI and Anthropic, thanks to its acquisition of Elon Musk’s xAI this year. Market experts are saying the SpaceX IPO is as much a bet on Elon Musk as it is on rocketry and artificial intelligence. Prospectus claims of colonizing the Moon and Mars are, to say the least, ambitious. And Musk has a proven record of becoming distracted. He built Tesla into the most valuable car company in the world. But it took a huge hit when he turned his attention to leading the DOGE, President Trump’s controversial effort to cut federal programs and staffing. Musk has near-total control over how everything works at SpaceX. An IPO will open up the books to the public on what, until now has been a startup whose promised and dreams work with early investors and venture funds, but might not stand up to bottom-line focused average investors. https://www.npr.org/2026/06/11/nx-s1-5853199/spacex-ipo-price-elon-musk
Current and former SpaceX employees are already planning their post-IPO spending sprees. Thousands of new millionaires and at least several new billionaires are expected to be created once SpaceX goes public. As widely reported, it could also make CEO Elon Musk the world’s first trillionaire. Though they won’t be able to sell their shares right away, some are planning major purchases. Real estate inquiries are being made not far from SpaceX’s California offices in the expensive communities of Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Palos Verdes Estates. A realtor in Austin says he’s seeing similar inquiries from employees of the SpaceX campus south of that city. A similar boom around Facebook headquarters in Silicon Valley occurred after its IPO in 2012 with home values there jumping 21% as a result. Sales of exotic cars, expensive watches, vacation homes and even private jets are expected to benefit from the upcoming stock offering. https://www.espn.com/golf/leaderboard
On this day in music history – June 11,
- 1960 early Beatles drummer Tommy Moore made the fateful decision to quit the group and go back to his job driving a forklift. Seemed like the better choice at the time. He was briefly replaced by a guy who only played three gigs before being called into the National Service. The group had no drummer for several weeks until Pete Best joined the day before they left for Hamburg to begin their first string of German club dates. As we all know, even Best eventually washed out in favor of Ringo Starr when the group got its big break in 1962.
- In 1966, the Rolling Stones began the first of two weeks at #1 with “Paint It Black”. It was the first chart-topping song to feature a sitar.
- On the same day, European radio stations erroneously reported that The Who’s lead singer, Roger Daltry was dead. Actually, it was Pete Townsend who’d only been injured in a car crash a few days earlier.
- In 1967, an ad in Melody Maker sought a “Freaky lead guitarist, bass and drummer” for Mark Bolan’s new group, which became Tyrannosaurus Rex, later shortened to T. Rex.
- In 1977, Joe Strummer and Topper Headon from The Clash were detained overnight in British jail for failure to appear before a Magistrate three weeks earlier. The charge was theft of a Holiday Inn pillowcase. They were fined $170.
- Also in 1977, KC and the Sunshine Band became only the second group since the Jackson Five to have four #1 hits when “I’m Your Boogie Man” hit the top of the chart.
- In 2000, Aaliyah’s “Try Again” became the first song ever to reach #1 through airplay-only. It had not yet been released for sale.
- In 2002, Paul McCartney married Heather Mills. The two had met three years earlier at an animal rights awards ceremony. They divorced four years later with Mills getting a settlement and assets somewhere along the lines of $30m.
- In 2011, Pink Floyd’s 1973 album “Dark Side of the Moon” re-entered the charts at #47 and reached the milestone of having been on the charts 1,000 weeks including reaching #1 on multiple occasions.
- In 2019, the Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals decided to review its 2016 decision that Led Zeppelin had not plagiarized “Stairway to Heaven” from the opening riff of Spirit’s 1968 song, “Taurus”. The two bands had toured together before Stairway was written.
Born on this day …
- In 1946, John Lawton from Uriah Heep
- In 1947, Glenn Leonard who was with The Temptations from 1975 to 1983.
- In 1949, Frank Beard, drummer for ZZ Top. Ironically, he’s the only member of the band who doesn’t have a beard.
- In 1952 Donnie Van Zant, vocalist and guitarist with 38 Special. He’s the younger brother of Ronnie Van Zant from Lynyrd Skynyrd, who died in a 1977 plane crash.
