Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has filed for what may be the biggest initial public offering of stock ever, making the five-year old startup one of the world’s most valuable companies. Next month’s Wall Street debut could eclipse the $86b raised when SpaceX went public in June and will make CEO, Dario Amodei and his sister and co-founder, Daniela additional billions. Currently valued at just under $1 trillion by private investors, the IPO could double that. All this from a company that reported a net loss of $80.7b for the first half of 2026. OpenAI is expected to follow with its own IPO. Anthropic’s IPO comes at a time when Dario Amodei is warning that advanced AI could pose an existential threat to humanity. https://apnews.com/article/anthropic-ipo-shares-public-ca2f4c282bef3201a392e59e3df2300c

They’ve only been on the market since Friday, but some purchasers of the new $2k iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable phone are reporting cracks in the screen where it folds. Apple said today that it is aware of the issue, which it says is only affecting a “small number” of phones and that they will be repaired under warranty. That’s a repair job that will cost just shy of $1k once the phone is out of warranty. Breaking screens have been an issue with foldable phones since their debut in 2019. It’s been one of the major roadblocks to widespread adoption of the technology. https://www.cnbc.com/2026/10/26/apple-responds-to-user-reports-of-broken-iphone-duo-screens.html

Halloween candy isn’t selling like it used to. Sales were down 6.7% this month so far compared with last Halloween. That’s better than the 11.7% year-over-year decline last month. US candy prices have been climbing faster than inflation for several years. Aldi is currently advertising a bag of Mars chocolate candies for trick or treaters that’s about half the size of one five years ago for almost the same price as the one five years ago – almost $20. Between consumers pressed by the high cost of fuel and the price for raw ingredients of chocolate skyrocketing, a decline in sales was predictable. But even non-chocolate candies aren’t selling well – and their cost is about 3% lower than last year. Watch out, Charlie Brown. You may actually be getting a rock in your trick or treat bag this year. https://apnews.com/article/halloween-candy-sales-chocolate-prices-treats-0b1126f30969a21710ba995416c5b905
